Pedaling Empowers Daily Active Life-styles

There are two types of “Miles” for which an accounting category is posted within the program i.e., each mile bicycled is accounted for in two ways. Parents/Guardians keep track of miles bicycled and signs off on them.

Community Miles:

For every mile a child bicycles instead of taking or being driven in the car, the child earns $0.55 scrip, which is redeemable at locally-owned participating businesses.

This is the approximate cost to society of having a child driven one mile instead of that child bicycling.

Family Miles:

For every mile a child bicycles instead of being driven in the car, the parent or guardian contributes $.45 cash. This is the approximate cost to a family of having a child driven one mile instead of that child bicycling. The money collected here goes to:

• Help pay for PEDAL operational costs of the entire enterprise.
• Help pay for special projects and events to encourage bicycling by children.

Community and Family miles will be a tracked at P.E.D.A.L. Central, the administration and operations office.

Parents/Guardians:

1. Fill out a form after each designated 4 week period is completed.
2. Indicate and sign off on this form the number of miles bicycled by the child.
3. Mail a check for their Family Miles accumulation.
4. The Community Miles are sent back to the parent or guardian as 'scrip' which then becomes redeemable at local participating businesses.

Businesses or organizations (who sign an Á La Carte Agreement)

1. Collect the scrip currency at point of sale.
2. Returns scrip currency to PEDAL for a receipt from PEDAL for tax deduction.
